Calling all tramps: submit to the upcoming Bruce Springstzine! (a.k.a. Born to Run Out of Toner)
Is your family tired of hearing about how Bruce Springsteen is the greatest human being to ever walk the earth? Do you wake up in a cold sweat screaming, “Bobby Jean, don’t go!”? Are your friends unamused when you ask them to fix their hair up pretty and meet you tonight in Atlantic City? Then stop spraying it, and start writing or displaying it.
Friend of the Brooklyn Zine Fest and artist Melissa Meyer just spotted this flyer in Providence, RI asking for submissions to a Bruce fanzine, appropriately titled Bruce Springstzine. Send an essay, poem, photo, story, or lock of hair to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 1, 2013 to be considered for what’s sure to be a heartfelt ode to an amazing artist whose latest album Wrecking Ball is one of the best in his long career.
Of course, this isn’t the first Springsteen fanzine, and thankfully it won’t be the last. We’re actually planning a trip to the Bruce Springsteen Special Collection in New Jersey this summer, where they have whole stacks of archived zines from the past thirty-plus years. And just recently, Matthias Scherer released the limited-edition Jungleland: A Springzine, which remains out-of-print for the time being. And there’s always the glossy Backstreets if you’re looking for something with a little more access.
Most importantly though, if you haven’t really listened to Bruce Springsteen and/or The E Street Band before, you should start by unleashing your inner Jimmy McNulty right now:
